  • Patrick Wayne Swayze was een Amerikaans acteur.

    Zijn moeder, Patsy Swayze, was een bekende choreografe, die onder meer de choreografie voor Urban Cowboy, Thelma & Louise en Letters from a killer op haar naam heeft staan. Swayze doorliep zijn schooltijd en al gauw bleek dat zowel dansen als acteren hem in het bloed zat. Met zijn moeder als eerste danslerares en een vader die hem aanmoedigde veel aan sport te blijven doen, begaf de jonge Patrick zich al snel op het toneel als danser, maar ook als acteur. Daarnaast was hij lid van het turnteam van zijn universiteit.

    Hij nam onder andere les bij de Houston Jazz Ballet Company, Harkness Ballet Theater School (New York) en Joffrey Ballet Company. Uiteindelijk sloot hij zich aan als danser bij Eliot Feld Ballet Company. Door de rol van Danny Zuko in de Broadwayproductie Grease, die al eerder John Travolta bekendheid had gegeven, was voor Swayze de opening naar Hollywood gemaakt. Op 12 juni 1975 huwde hij de danseres, actrice en tekstschrijfster Lisa Niemi.

    Swayze werd vooral bekend door zijn rol van dansleraar in Dirty Dancing. Ook nam hij een nummer voor de soundtrack van de film op. De ballad She's Like The Wind werd een top 10 hit. Daarvoor had hij een hoofdrol in de televisieserie North and South, over de Amerikaanse Burgeroorlog.

    Op 5 maart 2008 werd door een woordvoerder van Swayze bekendgemaakt dat hij alvleesklierkanker had. De woordvoerder ontkende dat de acteur was opgegeven en nog maar kort te leven zou hebben. Swayze reageerde op dat moment goed op de behandeling reageren en kon vooralsnog zijn dagelijkse werkzaamheden voortzetten.

    Nooit de moed opgeven ook al is het soms zwaar. De kracht om verder te leven zeker met en voor elkaar.

    Innige deelneming aan Patrick zijn vrouw ,familie en allen die hem lief hadden .hij was een fantastisch acteur .Dit overlijden treft mij diep omdat het mijn lievelingsacteur is.De film ghost waar hij in speelt zal nu voor velen waarheid worden.
    .Rust in vreden PATRICK .I love you forever.

    You start with one sick flower. Each day it multiplies. The first day you 've got 1. The next day you 've got 2. The third day, 4 sick flowers and the day after, 8. The day before the end, the lake is halffull... You can 't see it happen. It 's allways too soon.

    It changes your whole life. You wonder why there 's war, disagreement, suicide.... I 've learned from my cancerfight, with my beloved partner, that you have to enjoy life while you are healthy. Life can be so beautiful. Don 't make life hard and difficult. Enjoy it. Respect one another.

    My boyfriend found out he had pancreascancer, the week before Patrick had discovered his terrible tumor. He passed away in februar 2007. We had so little time. I still miss him very much but I try to make the most of it.

    My thoughts are with his dear wife Lisa, family and friends. Much strength in these difficult times and years.

    Groot verdriet voor allen die houden van dans, muziek en romantiek . Een mooie aantrekkelijke acteur is een ster geworden ,hoog aan de hemel .Zoals in de film Ghost heeft het mij en vele anderen verdriet gedaan .Langs deze weg wil ik zijn echtgenote en familie heel veel sterkte toe wensen .Forever Patrick Swayze .
